Kent Valley, Lancaster CC, Lakes, Lune, Cleveleys RC and Barrow CW are running an inter club hilly competition for the first time in years. And the first one, a hill climb up Bigland Hill near Haverthwaite, is this Thursday 23rd April (it's the only event of the series on a Thursday evening, so the only one that clashes with our Thursday evening Salt Ayre time trials).

The other events  in the series are:

  • Monday 18th May, 19:00: Old Hutton Hilly Time Trial
  • Monday 15th June, 19:00: Conder Bottoms Hill Climb
  • Monday 22nd June, 19:00: Jubilee Tower Hill Climb
  • Wednesday 1st July, 19:00: Coast Road 21 mile Time Trial
  • Monday 3rd August, 19:00: Jungle Cafe Hilly Time Trial
  • Monday 10th August, 19:00: Knotallow Tarn Hill Climb
  • Sunday 23rd August, 10:00: Shap & Back Hilly 21 mile Time Trial

An 'old fashioned' hill climb, the Bigland Hall course rises 160m over 1.05 miles from the Clocktower buildings to the main gates of Bigland Hall estate. The course record, set by Joshua Jardine of Kent Valley on 22nd April 2014, is 5 mins 52 seconds.

To get there, travelling along the A590, turn towards Cark/Holker estate at the Haverthwaite crossroads. Follow the B5278 through Haverthwaite and take the second left, immediately after passing over a bridge (signs for Clocktower Electricals). SATNAV postcode LA12 8LY. Parking is limited at the start and finish of the climb. You can use the Haverthwaite TT layby roughly 1 mile from the start (used as a meeting place for the Barrow Central Wheelers Haverthwaite TTs). Alternatively Chris Barron has kindly offered alternative parking at Bigland Caravan Park, LA12 8PJ - please park considerately in the first yard on the right as you come into the new entrance complex; you'll be expected, so there's no need to inform staff.

The first rider will be off at 6:30, with last sign-on at 6:20pm.
