Le Terrier at Jubilee Tower

Join us on the 7th June 2015 for the eighth edition of our sportive which is organised by a small group of cyclists from Lancaster CC. Links to the entry system, which is managed by SiEntries, and details of the event are on www.le-terrier.co.uk

Since the inaugural event in 2008 Le Terrier has earned a reputation as a well-run event on quiet roads in a beautiful area of north-west England, the Bowland Forest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are very proud of Le Terrier and the reputation it has earned, and as cyclists ourselves we know the area very well, and aim to organise the kind of event we would ride ourselves. After experimenting with changes to the route for the first five years we have now settled on what we think is the best route, and offer three options of 45, 68 and 106 miles, each with a choice of difficulty in the last 10 to 15 miles, giving six options in total.

All three routes take in Jubilee Tower and the Trough of Bowland with a split at Dunsop Bridge. The Short route then goes left and straight through Newton to the feed station at Slaidburn while the Long and Medium routes carry straight on before turning up over Wild Boar Fell to Chipping and then along the northern edge of Longridge fell for the climb of Jeffery Hill. The climb of Waddington Fell brings these routes back down to Newton to rejoin riders on the short route and on to the feed station at Slaidburn.

The long route then goes over Bowland Knots with a big loop back to Slaidburn from where all three routes make their way over Cross of Greet and on to Wray for the final split. Those of you wanting more take the road up Roeburndale, Littledale and Stock-a-bank to the finish at Lancaster; for an easier option there is an escape route down the Lune Valley to Lancaster. As you may see one of the beauties of these three main routes is that with a little planning it's quite possible for riders of varying abilities to ride different distances yet meet up at Slaidburn or later to ride together for the final miles back into Lancaster and our fantastic HQ at the University of Cumbria.

We all do the organising for free but we also do this to make money for charities. Our 2015 charities are Lancaster Homeless (LDHAS) and BayAquatherapy and to this end we do not have a budget for advertising but rely on our reputation and word of mouth. We would therefore appreciate it if you could copy/circulate to any other forum/notice boards/cycling groups you may be members of.

Thanks,

Bob Muir
