An excellent autumn morning greeted the riders and officials for the annual Jubilee Towers Hill Climb which this year included the North Lancs Time Trial Association Hill Climb Championships. First rider to start (and only just making it to the line on time having thought the start was an hour later) was the youngest rider in the field, Hugh Carthy (Science-in-Sport.com), who recorded an excellent time despite having only 50yards warm up from the car to the line. Youngest vet Steve Whiteside was next up and he pegged Hugh at a minute all the way just loosing out by 3.1seconds. The next rider to cross the finishing line was Adam Pinder (Blackburn & District CTC) who blasted up the hill to join the select band of riders who have recorded sub 8minute rides on this hill. Adam's time of 7:51.7 stood the test of all comers, the nearest being last man off Mark Holton who posted his excuses prior to the event as being 5kilo's overweight and rapidly entering the post season wind down. There was however one other rider on the hill, Kendal's Dave Everett, who looked like a winner as he shot away from the start nearly dragging the start steward up the hill after him. Dave has only been back in the country for a week after spending the season in France and was too late to enter the event and the NLTTA Championship but was allowed to do a private trial purely for training - which he obviously does not need. Dave's last competitive ride on this hill was in 2003 when he just lost out to Ben Greenwood when he set the course record by only 0.8second. Although it had warmed up considerably the conditions were dead calm and a record ride (albeit unofficial) was not on but Dave was still within ten seconds of Ben's time and had he entered on time he would have been the 2007 NLTTA Champion. Instead that title goes to Adam Pinder with Lynn Hamel, confirming the form she showed a few weeks ago on on the Hartside Climb, taking the Woman's title recording 8:32.7 for sixth place and beating many of the established male hill climbers. Adam also lead the Blackburn & District CTC to the team title and after the awards & grub, courtesy of Jann Muir doing the catering from her caravan, he led off his team-mates on the ride home via Chipping were he was to buy the cakes from his winnings.
