'Cyril Dixon Trophy' Open 10 Mile Time Trial

9th June 2007

Under CTT (RTTC) Rules and Regulations

Organised by Bob Muir.

The Levens L1015 course has always been popular but since Bradley Wiggans set the competition record here last year it is even more so. Event organiser, Bob Muir, received a total of 176 entries for the event which meant even after the full reserve list of ten there were 46 unhappy riders with entries returned. Thanks to riders promptly offering their apologies for various reasons all reserve places were allocated by the evening before the event and a field 110 riders, many making a round trip of a few hundred miles, started on a fine evening in the South Lakes. With very little wind there were no float sections on the course and riders had to work all the way round but there were many happy faces at the result board with many new PB's reported not just further down the field but many near the top. The winner was Keith Murray (Wheelspincycles.com) whose 19:42 was the only sub 20 ride but was only 19 seconds short of his all time PB set in 2001. Highest placed of the PB's was local Chris Anderson (Lakes RC) in third place with 20:15 - an 14 second improvement on his best set last September in the event where Wiggins set the 17:58 record. The highest placed under 18 was Liverpool Mercury/Dolan rider Richard Meadows whose 20:39 just failed to improve on his PB of 19:56 also set in the Wigan Wheelers CC event last September but second under 18 was up and coming local star Calum Nicholson riding for ProBikeKit.com who improved a massive 1:36 on his month old PB set on the Bassenthwaite course recording 20:54 for 12th place overall. The ladies awards went to Preston based Charlotte Wadsworth who recorded 22:29 (a 1:23 improvement on her PB) from her 'TheGreenRoomGroup.com' team-mate Linsay Anderson with 23:00. The age group winner were Chris Anderson, as above, in the 40+ cat; Russell Richardson (Teesdale CRC) with 20:59 in the 50+ cat - an improvement of 0:16 on PB; Trevor Horton (Warrington RC) with 21:37 in the 60+ cat. The oldest rider, 71 year old Ron Mellor (West Pennine RC) recorded 24:11 while the youngest, Hugh Carthy (ScienceinSport.com) 13years old next month, recorded 24:47 - a 37second improvement on PB. The team award went to the VC Cumbria trio of Mark Amor, Peter Brear & Brian Payton with an aggregate time of 62:51. The organiser wishes to thank all marshals, the two timekeeper - John Hale & Terry Kay, and the after race refreshment provider 'Kim's Snack Bar' who all helped to make this a successful event.
