Special thanks to Jann Muir at event HQ for getting up at 05:30 to spend the morning organising drinks and refreshments and then going on to work in the afternoon until 11pm.
Below is the result of the Lancaster Cycling Club Open 25 mile TT on the Levens course which considering the weather conditions produced some surprisingly fast times. There were a few blustery showers but the main problem was caused by an increasingly strong wind blowing off the Irish Sea hindering the riders on the first and third six mile legs but making life a dream on the other two legs. The event record of 52:20, set by Thomas Evans last year in the race which dates back to 1935, lasted another year as Gethin Butler, last man off, produced the ride of the day with 53:14 leaving his team-mate John Morgan in second place over a minute and a half back. Predictably Preston Wheelers took the team prize with these two backed up by 4th placed Paul Fleming (56:06). The Preston trio bettered the 1996 team record, 2:50:35 set by Team Rapide, by over 6 minutes and were over half an hour better than the 1935 team winners – Preston Wheelers with 3:15:51.
Some excellent veteran standard rides were produced with 69year old Frank Kerry (Lancashire Road Club) coming out tops with a plus of 20:07.
We hope to be promoting the same five events next year, SpoCo event in March, 10 & 50 in June, 25 in September and Hill Climb in November. Hope to see you all there. Have a good winter.
